{"id":1027,"date":"2017-08-31T03:10:22","date_gmt":"2017-08-31T03:10:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.multispares.com.au\/blog\/?p=1027"},"modified":"2026-10-14T07:01:29","modified_gmt":"2026-10-14T07:01:29","slug":"new-heavy-vehicle-chart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.multispares.com.au\/blog\/new-heavy-vehicle-chart\/","title":{"rendered":"New Heavy Vehicle Chart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NHVR recently released a new chart outlining the different heavy vehicle combinations \u2013 39 in all, including information on a vehicle\u2019s class, length and its weight limits.<\/p>\n<p>This chart is extremely user-friendly and assists those, especially when choosing truck spares.<\/p>\n<p>This new heavy vehicle chart has been designed to be user-friendly, to help everyone understand and comply with the new national heavy vehicle regulations. It is important that everyone has a much better understanding of the industry overall, especially for operators to gain a better understanding of the conditions needed to access the road network.<\/p>\n<p>The new chart has been designed with 6 categories including general access semitrailer combinations, general access rigid trucks, Class 2 B-double combinations, Class 3 rigid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.multispares.com.au\/products\/trailer\/\">truck and trailer<\/a> combination, Class 2 type 2 road trains and Class 2 type 1 road trains.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Trucking Association has supported the NHVR chart agreeing that this document will complement the ATA\/ITC Truck Impact Chart (TAP) \u2013 which is used to compare different truck combinations.<\/p>\n<p>The chart also supports the NHVR\u2019s National Harmonisation Programme that works with the heavy vehicle industry on national notices for road trains, agricultural vehicles and combinations, B-Doubles and higher mass limits.<\/p>\n<h2>General Mass and Dimension Limits<\/h2>\n<p>The National Heavy Vehicle mass and dimensions limit fact sheets includes information on \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Mass Limits<strong> \u2013<\/strong> including detailed information on axle mass limits and axle spacing, and information on the methods used to assess compliance with heavy vehicle mass requirements<\/li>\n<li>1-Tonne Tri-axle mass transfer allowance<\/li>\n<li>General dimension requirements<\/li>\n<li>Heavy vehicle dimension assessment \u2013 compliance and enforcement<\/li>\n<li>Width \u2013 width limit for vehicles is 2.5 meters (exclusions apply)<\/li>\n<li>Height \u2013 the height limit for heavy vehicles is 4.3 meters unless it is a vehicle used for carrying livestock, for carrying cars or is a double decker bus<\/li>\n<li>Length \u2013 length varies according to the truck \u2013 general access vehicles, trailers, refrigerated van trailers, car carriers and livestock carriers and semi-trailers all have their own individual length specifications<\/li>\n<li>Rear overhang and rear overhang line \u2013 the rear overhang of a vehicle is the distance between the rear of the vehicle and the rear overhang line of the vehicle<\/li>\n<li>Rear overhang on rigid trucks \u2013 Lesser of 3.7 meters or 60% of the wheelbase<\/li>\n<li>Rear overhang on semi-trailers and dog trailers \u2013 Lesser of 3.7 meters or 60% of *S* dimension<\/li>\n<li>Rear overhang on a pig trailer \u2013 the rear overhang on a pig trailer is not to exceed the lesser of the length of the road carrying area, forward of the rear overhang line or 3.7 metres<\/li>\n<li>Dimensions relating to specific trailer types \u2013 these include Livestock carriers, refrigerated van trailers and car carriers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More detailed information on the new guidelines can be found at\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhvr.gov.au\/road-access\/mass-dimension-and-loading\/general-mass-and-dimension-limits\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.nhvr.gov.au\/road-access\/mass-dimension-and-loading\/general-mass-and-dimension-limits<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here at Multispares, we guarantee that you get the highest quality <a href=\"https:\/\/www.multispares.com.au\/vehicle-makes\/american\">American<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.multispares.com.au\/vehicle-makes\/japanese\/\">Japanese<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.multispares.com.au\/vehicle-makes\/european\/\">European truck parts<\/a> at the most affordable prices.
