Round 1 2022 Sydney Motorsport Park

The 2022 Touring Car Masters series will kick off its season on March 4,5 & 6 at Sydney Motorsport Park and Ryan Hansford and his Multispares Torana will be there to put on another solid performance, as he did in 2021, where he won two races and the overall round.

Once again there will be a mix of tracks in the 2022 season and the SMP layout suits the Torana, so Ryan and the team are determined to get off to a good start and come away with a bag of points from Round 1.

“I had my best round in Sydney last year, the car works well, and I love driving there, so I’m pleased to be starting the season back at SMP after Newcastle was postponed.” Said Ryan

“ I was really looking forward to racing at Newcastle again especially in this Torana as the old car was fast around the streets but this car is so much better developed ” Ryan added

With the competition at the front in the back half of last season ramping up, the team have been developing some new front shock absorbers which were aimed at making the car better across the kerbs at Newcastle and Townsville. 2021 saw a scheduled race at Morgan Park in Qld, so team boss Rod Dawson thought it was time to introduce something he and MCA founder Murray Coote had been discussing, and in testing at the Morgan Park Ryan found quite an improvement, particuarly in the way the car soaked up the big kerbs and allowed him to get back on the throttle earlier and harder.

“Whilst the new shocks are really for the street circuits they were so much better, I’m really keen to try them at Sydney too.” Said Ryan

“Like all race cars, shock absorbers play a very important role in the car dynamics and every tenth of a second gained is so important.” He added

The SMP round will be supporting the Supercars so Fox and Kayo will be live from midday Friday, so keep up with Ryan’s progress over the weekend whilst enjoying Supercars, Super 2, Porsche Cup and Toyota 86 all back live on TV.

TCM has practice and qualifying on Friday afternoon, followed by 2x races on Saturday and 2x races on Sunday morning.
